How to choose outdoor furniture in Thailand?

In this article, we help to choose outdoor furniture in Thailand that best suit the purpose of your needs in outdoor spaces and patios beckon, and considering the weather conditions in sunny or rainy Thailand. As we all want our furniture to last and look good for as long as possible. The furniture material chosen to construct your outdoor furniture is what will determine the level of care it will need year-round, and what it takes to keep the outdoor furniture beautiful. Some outdoor furniture materials to consider are:

  1. Wicker (method) - synthetic fiber

Wicker is a traditional method that has become a popular outdoor furniture option in Thailand since 2009; for hotels, restaurants, cafe houses and condominiums. All-weather wicker is made by using plastics and other synthetic fibers, which are extruded in such a way to mimic the texture of natural rattan fibers. The furniture is then woven in the classic over-under manner to complete the time-tested look. It has a similar appearance to natural rattan, but with added qualities like easy maintenance. So why choose an all-weather wicker for outdoor furniture? It gives the look of natural rattan; however, it is made out of materials that guarantee your furniture to last years.

  1. Outdoor Ropes

Outdoor rope is a very popular material for outdoor furniture these days. Outdoor ropes can be fine thin or thick, round or flat, and it can be knotted, weaved or wrapped in endless ways. Outdoor rope is durable, fast-drying and you can make it more comfortable with cushions. Polyolefin rope has a soft texture, tensile strength, and resistance to fading and staining.

  1. Aluminum Frame

Powder coated aluminum for outdoor furniture is ideal for highly-trafficked areas, while its sleek beauty complements a variety of decorative materials and allows for creating a clean, contemporary ambiance. Yet not all aluminum furniture is created equal. Designers and homeowners that demand the very best for their outdoor furniture settle for nothing less than commercial-grade powder coated aluminum option. All of the aluminum used in the Mardi Decor outdoor collections features a commercial-grade powder coating, which provides a strong protective seal that shields the furniture from the elements, corrosion, fading and scratches over time.

  1. Fabrics

Fabrics can most certainly endure the outdoors these days, mostly thanks to plastics polypropylene, acrylic, and can make up the threads that are woven into a finished fabric, or may be applied as a protective coating in the outdoor furniture. Upholstered outdoor furniture should still be protected from exposure to rain and other inclement weather, but today’s outdoor upholstery can certainly have a long life in the outdoor space in Thailand.

  1. Outdoor Cushions

One of the most important decisions you’ll make when shopping for outdoor furniture is whether or not to have cushions, which add comfort but come with maintenance hassles, because they tend to get dirty and wet.

To preserve cushions as long as possible and to ensure that they’ll be dry when you want to use them, some designers recommend removing and storing them when they’re not in use. Others recommend protecting outdoor furniture with covers.

As we know the weather in Thailand during the rainy season has always been lots of rain that can create a mole and ruin your cushions. That's why it’s very important to use quick dry foam and water resistant fabric. Outdoor cushions can be fully customized to your design for outdoor furniture seating and the benefits are; choosing any color or patterns, protected from UV-light, quickly dry after rain, is removable for any washing needs. Therefore, you can have a fully customized experience with Mardi Décor when choosing your cushions for outdoor furniture. To resist fading, look for fabrics made from solution-dyed acrylic, like those from Sunbrella in which the colors are integral to the yarn rather than being dyed or printed later in the process.

  1. Quick Dry Foam

For cushions that won’t be soggy for days after a rainstorm, look for inserts that use quick-drying foam. Quick dry foam with its open cells allows water to pass through the foam. This foam is produced by a sophisticated process called Hydro-Blast Reticulation. This is what gives its unique structure porous cells open – that’s why QuickDry completely outperforms closed-cell, non-reticulated, regular foams.

A lot of outdoor furniture can be left out all year long, especially if it’s heavy enough not to blow around in storms. But cushions are another story.

Both of these approaches (cushions & quick dry foam) are labor intensive and may discourage you from using your outdoor space on days when you can’t be bothered to put out the cushions or uncover the furniture.
